LASIK EYE SURGERY

Lasik surgery, short-sightedness, long-sightedness and vision problems such as astigmatism is a form of refractive surgery in which the cornea is corrected.

The aim of this procedure is to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses by reshaping the cornea with a laser.
Lasik surgery is a popular and effective method of improving vision. During the procedure, the cornea is precisely reshaped to improve the focussing of light on the retina, resulting in clearer vision without the aid of corrective lenses.

Who is suitable for LASIK eye surgery?

  • People who have reached the age of eighteen. There is no upper age limit as long as there are no cataracts or nuclear sclerosis.

  • People whose spectacle prescription has not changed by more than 0.50 in the last two years.

  • People with healthy eye structure and no eye disease such as keratoconus, cataract, glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy.

  • People with short-sightedness up to 10.0 dioptres.

  • People with hyperopia up to 6.00 dioptres.

  • People with astigmatism up to 6.00 dioptres.

  • People with sufficient corneal thickness.

  • People without rheumatic or connective tissue diseases.

How is LASIK eye surgery performed?

LASIK eye surgery is quick and not difficult for the patient.
The patient can eat beforehand. The only requirements are:

  • No eye make-up

  • No blood thinners such as aspirin

Procedure Steps

  • You lie on your back on a special laser bed

  • Eyes are anaesthetised with drops

  • A sterile drape is placed

  • Eyelids are held open with a special device

  • Blinking is prevented

  • If both eyes need LASIK, the procedure is usually done on the same day

  • The eyes are not bandaged after the treatment

How does the healing process work?

Immediately after the procedure, your eye may:

  • Itch

  • Feel cloudy

  • Burn

  • Tear excessively

You will likely experience blurred vision.
Pain is usually mild and vision typically returns quickly.

Doctors may prescribe:

  • Painkillers

  • Eye drops

  • Protective night glasses (until the eye heals)

Vision Recovery Timeline

  • Vision will not be fully clear immediately

  • Even if you see well within a few days, full stabilisation may take 2–3 months

  • Results depend partly on pre-procedure visual clarity

Follow-up

You will have a follow-up appointment 1–2 days after the procedure to:

  • Check healing

  • Check for complications

Restrictions After Surgery

  • No cosmetics around the eyes for a few weeks

  • Avoid strenuous contact sports

  • Avoid swimming pools

  • Avoid hot baths (sauna/hamam) for several weeks

    Heavy eye lids

    I have been looking to get excess skin removed from my eyes for a number of years now. I have went for so many consultations over the years, but something kept holding me back. Until I came across PG Clinics. I am so happy I waited. I spoke to Sonny the coordinator multiple times. Sent photos of my eyes. She sent me photo's of people with the same issue and their results.
